Cast and crew afloat following successful shoot of independent drama

Halifax, NS – October 5, 2011 – The Disappeared, Shandi Mitchell‟s first feature film wraps principal photography the morning of Thursday, October 6 in Lunenburg, NS. The writer and director‟s psychological drama about six fishers adrift in the North Atlantic after their boat goes down stars Billy Campbell, Shawn Doyle, Brian Downey, Gary Levert, Ryan Doucette and Neil Matheson.

“Shooting my first feature on the open ocean has been an amazing experience,” said Shandi Mitchell. “The Disappeared is truly a Maritime story and the experience has affected all of us deeply. We have fallen in love with the wild beauty of the sea and as we leave the open water, we feel our hearts ache. I am so proud of this team.”

Filmed from a wooden platform on the edge of the open sea, the project required daily cooperation from the ocean – the films‟ seventh character. The Disappeared’s dedicated and passionate cast and crew braved cold, wind, fog, rain and rough seas required by the script.

“Shandi is calling The Disappeared an ‘Eastern’,” said producer Walter Forsyth. “We‟ve coined this new genre as it‟s inspired by the „Western‟ with its motifs and styles but with the wild Atlantic standing in for the wild West.”

“We are very excited for the future of The Disappeared,” producer Karen Franklin continued. “A good movie transports its audience to places they have not been before or places they do not normally go. If we’ve done this as well as I think we have, this film is sure to be success in the marketplace.”

The producers plan for a theatrical release in September 2012. Acquired by Astral‟s The Movie Network and Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central, The Disappeared was developed and filmed with the financial support of Telefilm Canada and Film Nova Scotia, with further development assistance from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage.

Two Dories Film Inc. is a Nova Scotia company created to produce the theatrical feature film, The
Disappeared, for national and international distribution. Follow The Disappeared online at and on Facebook.
