The Disappeared premieres at the Atlantic Film Festival’s Atlantic Gala

21 Aug The Disappeared premieres at the Atlantic Film Festival’s Atlantic Gala

Two Dories Film is thrilled to announce that the world premiere of The Disappeared will take place at the 32nd Atlantic Film Festival. The film will screen as the Atlantic Gala 7 p.m. Friday, September 14, at the Oxford Theatre, Halifax, NS.

Shandi Mitchell, the film’s director and writer, states, “It’s fantastic to have our film chosen as a gala presentation. This is home. There’s no better place to celebrate my cast and crews’ achievement or this story.”

Shot entirely on the ocean off of Lunenburg, NS, in September 2011, The Disappeared tells the story of six men and their struggle to get home after their fishing boat sinks in the North Atlantic. The Disappeared cast includes American actor Billy Campbell and Canadian star Shawn Doyle alongside local actors Brian Downey, Ryan Doucette, Gary Levert and Neil Matheson. The cast will be in attendance for the premiere viewing the film, along with audiences, for the first time.

Gary Levert, who plays the film’s character Merv, states, “All the actors have Maritime roots. So it is appropriate that The Disappeared have its world premiere at the Atlantic Gala. I look forward to seeing my fellow cast mates again at the event.”

Producer Walter Forsyth adds, “It took five years to bring this film from the script to the big screen. We are very happy to finally show it to the world.”

Halifax is the first stop for The Disappeared’s festival circuit. To date the film has also been selected for international film festivals in Edmonton, Calgary and Sudbury.

Acquired by Astral’s The Movie Network and Corus Entertainment’s Movie Central, The Disappeared received financial support from Telefilm Canada, Film Nova Scotia, developed with added support from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Nova Scotia Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage.

The Disappeared is produced by Gilles Belanger, Ralph Holt, Walter Forsyth and Karen Franklin. Two Dories Film Inc. is a Nova Scotia company created to produce the theatrical feature film, The Disappeared, for national and international distribution.
